Studio Services

The studio is pleased to offer professional-grade printmaking services and individual studio rental. For more information regarding costs, timelines, and possibilities please email info@sidetimestudio.com

  • Do you have a copper or zinc printing plate that you'd like to have printed for you? Something you made in college or at another print facility? The studio provides expert level printing services for previously made plates. Restoration services are also available.

  • Are you experienced in using an etching press and looking for facilities to use in Brooklyn? Sidetime Studio is happy to offer flexible private studio rental with materials included (copper plates and paper are additional fees). The shop has everything necessary for etching, aquatint, and monotype processes. A studio monitor will be on duty to answer questions and to ensure proper safety protocols are practiced.

  • Would like like to host an event at Sidetime Studio? Printmaking education for art advisories or auction houses? Birthday party? Drinks and monotype? Get in touch!

  • Do you see a workshop you'd like to participate in but you are unable to make the dates? The studio offers flexible and customizable workshops for individuals and small groups! Maximum three participants. Tutorials are an additional 75 dollars per person to the standard workshop cost.

  • MARTECH ETCHING PRESS

    28" wide by 48" long bed

  • INKING STATION

    Everything you need for handwiping a plate. Larger hotplate coming soon.

  • INKS AND PAINTS

    High-quality traditional etching inks are available to use. We have a limited color range, please either bring your own colors or get in touch to see what we have available at the moment. Professional water based media is also available for monotype.

  • AQUATINT BOX

    Traditional aquatint box (with a see through top!) Can accommodate plates up to 28 x 32 inches.

  • KITCHENETTE

    Kettle, mini fridge, and microwave available. Cups, bowls, etc. The studio has lots of food options close by.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

In addition to some low-tox printing practices, the studio works in traditional etching methods, which utilize materials that may harm your health. We take precautions when using chemicals including gloves, protective eyewear, and masks to limit exposure. Workshop participants and studio users will receive an email outlining safe practice expectations and chemical considerations for their mediums. We do not use or allow Dutch mordant or nitric acid for intaglio at Sidetime Studio. The most common chemicals and substances used in the studio are oil based inks, odorless mineral spirits, naphtha, asphaltum, and ferric chloride (for etching).
